Sometimes it really feels like the world is a messed up place. When we are in a space of darkness, it’s just not easy to see the the light in between the shadows. Yoga is my baseline that keeps me coming back to my centre, my place of positivity. I feel like each person has a comfort baseline. Somewhere on a scale between 1 and 10 (1 being miserable and 10 being elated) where they sit regularly and are comfortable there. I’d say my comfort baseline is about a 7 out of 10. That means I’m normally a pretty darn happy person! There is no right or wrong here. What do you think yours is? Have you slipped below it or climbed above it recently? It’s always good to keep the balance of emotions in check. When we slump it feels terrible, yet also when we are too excitable at level 10, it can drain us very quickly. Find your emotional centre, and when you’re happy, let it flourish. When you’re down, take a look at the screen of your mind, and choose a more positive image or thought to put at the foreground. I realise that recently I have been cultivating negative thoughts. WIthout judgement, I choose to now replace those with positive thoughts.
Yoga Sutra 2.33: vitarkabaadhane pratipakShabhaavanam
vitarka=negative thoughts; baadhane=when disturbed by; pratipakSha=opposite thoughts; bhaavanam=should be thought of
“When disturbed by negative thoughts, opposite (positive) ones should be thought of. This is pratipaksha bhavana.”
That’s my thought for the week, month, maybe even year! Because Life is actually amazing and I am so blessed. Always think of others and how you can alleviate their suffering. Because we are all suffering in some way, it is part of being human. Let’s choose to focus our mind on thebeauty that is around us, and let that uplift us.
